Day One: Dream Home Tour

I'm beyond excited to share this spectacular home with you guys. Believe it or not, this space actually belongs to one of my readers. After years of saving design ideas in a folder, Cristi and her husband Jeff recently completed building their dream home in Lindon, Utah. They knew exactly what kind of home they wanted: light, beachy and airy. The couple has ties to Hawaii and wanted to incorporate that feel into their new home. And two years ago they took a trip out to the Hamptons (they won the trip on Price is Right! ha!) and fell in love with the homes out there. (There should really be a support group for us!) When it came time to finally build their new home, their aim was to fuse the Hawaiian beachy feel with the Hamptons waterfront classic architecture and design. I'm loving the results!

Their dream home took them a year and a half to complete from the design and concept stage to the certificate of occupancy. They selected award-winning Morgan Hatfield of Hatfield Homes to bring their vision to life. Cristi's husband Jeff actually did quite a bit of the architectural design while Cristi worked very closely with another award-winner, talented interior designer Lindy Allen of Four Chairs Furniture. She was able to perfectly implement all of those fabulous ideas Cristi had been saving for so long. (In fact, it's an honor to know a lot of her inspiration actually came from reading House of Turquoise!) Building their new home was a labor of love for them and it truly is "their baby"!

Cristi may not be a designer, but it should come as no surprise that she does indeed have an artistic background. She's not only musical, but is also a photographer by profession. (She and Jessi Safsten took all these amazing images above!) Check out their website here...what talent! Cristi also has a really fun and colorful Etsy shop where she sells cute recycled accessories and her beautiful prints.

Seriously, I'm madly in love with this home and Cristi's photographs that capture it so beautifully. Pretty sure if I was going to build my dream home it would look exactly like this. All week I'm going to be taking you on a tour of their entire home, so come back tomorrow to continue on! I can't wait for you guys to see more of it...I guarantee you'll love it all!

If you have any questions at all about anything you see, please don't hesitate to ask away! Cristi is a real sweetheart and is more than willing to share! :)

Thank you so much for the opportunity to share my space!! I am an avid fan of "House of Turquoise" and am so excited to be stopping by today!

My name is Paige and my blog is called Faith's Place.

I am the wife to my my 3rd grade sweetheart (yep, that's right, I said 3rd grade) and mother to 2 beautiful little girls! Currently, my husband is deployed to Iraq on a year long tour (14 months, actually). I took this past year to challenge myself to 100 "Deployment Projects" as my coping mechanism to get through this deployment! It has given me a chance to focus on our home and our children, rather than thinking about his looonnnggg deployment!!! As of today, I have 11 projects to finish by the end of the month....when the hubby FINALLY comes home!! YAY!!!

One of my latest deployment projects is my Master Bedroom. I feel that decorating doesn't have to cost a lot of money...working with what you have, or being frugal can also give you wonderful results. I realize that I will never be on the cover of DECOR magazine or Better Homes and Gardens, but I do know that over the last year I have been able to create spaces in our home that reflect our personality and character....a home that I am proud to show off because it's where I have so diligently made my "nest" over the last year!

You can read ALL about my Master Bedroom redo with before pictures by clicking HERE.

So, thank you for taking the time to check out "my space".

have brilliant organizational moments.
am really disorganized.
love antiques, family heirlooms, thrifting and spray paint.
do it myself.
live in the south.
was raised in the mid-west.
rarely ever take my camera off "auto".
never have a budget to redecorate...
...but do anyway.
am soooo thankful to erin for having me here today!

i am thrilled to share our dining room with you today. it was so fun to put this room together. i can guarantee that everything in this room is one or more of the following: old, new, handed down, inherited, gifted, thrifted, handmade, re-created, or spray painted.

here are some quick details about the room:

paint color is SW "black fox".
chandelier was $7.
blue chair is reeeeally reeeelly old.
curtains are from ikea.
shelf is west elm; why, oh why don't they make this one anymore?
green table that survived a roof collapse was $50.
buffet is from craigslist.
vanity bench purchased at a local antique store.
china cabinet = family heirloom.
chairs are from target.

the painting above the buffet was my inspiration for the room. it's watercolor and was painted by my brother. isn't he amazing? my father-in-law (also pretty amazing) made the frame from reclaimed pine support beams that came out of the building where my brother painted the painting (his art studio). a perfect marriage. and a great story. i love great stories. almost everything in my house has a story.

it's so much more fun that way.

you can go here to read all about the room. and i mean ALL about it. so, grab your coffee, take a potty break, turn on disney jr. for the kids and come on over. enjoy the goods.

Guest Blogger: Alexandra from Destinations Perfected

A massive 6ft. x 8ft. Caroline Riviere watches over the living room

I am a huge fan of House of Turquoise, and could not be more ecstatic that Erin has asked me to write a guest blog for her site! I encourage you to visit my own ‘turquoise-themed’ blog Destinations Perfected on food, travel and the bespoke lifestyle, and I wish Erin all the best on her recent marriage!

Pops of turquoise and coral abound
When I purchased my first condo on Boston’s Waterfront (North End) over three and a half years ago, I did not have one piece of furniture to my name. I moved in with a few suitcases and a bed and then had to begin the task of decorating the roughly 900 square feet from scratch. My mother always says that your home should be a true reflection of yourself. Armed with this advice, I had to identify a style and a color palette that was all my own. Having spent summers in St. Tropez, Sardinia and the New England coastal town of Rockport, Massachusetts, I was most drawn to soothing blue turquoise, pops of red coral, crisp whites and all sorts of sea life associated with the beautiful beaches of my youth, from seashells to octopus to crabs. In addition, I love the elegance, sophistication and glamour of the old Hollywood Regency era; sparkling chandeliers, mirrored furniture, a drink cart with high ball glasses and rich fabrics. Subsequently, my own personal style emerged as a smash up between casual beach chic and the glitz of the 1930s.

In decorating my condo, I used the same rules as those I follow for fashion: invest in a few expensive and timeless pieces and then mix in some cheaper accessories to make a bold splash. The big-ticket key staples in my living room are the high-backed white boucle sofa from Kravet Fabrics and Home Furnishings, Emilio Pucci throw pillows purchased in Sardinia, Italy, a vintage turquoise Hermes Grands Fonds fish scarf I had custom framed, a sea-foam green Persian rug from the personal collection of the former Khan of Kalat (a housewarming gift), a beautiful sea-life painting I had commissioned on a recent trip to Sorrento, Italy (for a close up of my painting, click here), and an absolutely massive reproduction of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres’ 1806 painting of Caroline Riviere (the original hangs in the Musee de Louvre in Paris) which was printed on fine silk, purchased in Paris, and then framed by hand here in Boston. Luckily my 12ft. ceilings can carry this off!

As for the accessories, lots of velvety turquoise throw pillows from Pier 1 Imports, a glass, mirrored and croc leather trimmed coffee table with silver camel feet from Cabot House Furniture , two custom upholstered white armchairs with ottoman from Bassett Furniture, twin coral lamps (that I painted myself) and various turquoise vases from Home Goods, twin mirrored cinema side tables from Target, Versace Les Tresors de la Mer vases and matching porcelain, as well as sea glass, seashells, and crab shells collected from various vacations.

Mirrored side tables hold treasures from the sea as well as coral lamps I hand painted myself and sprayed with a high gloss lacquer

Shelves above the television hold an Alessi coral bowl, porcelain by Versace Les Tresors de la Mer collection, a handmade seashell picture frame bought in Venice, Italy, birch tree branches I painted red to mimic coral branches, a glass vase full of pearlized shells and a painting I commissioned of a famous square in Padova, Italy

A white boucle couch from Kravet holds Emilio Pucci pillows bought in Porto Cervo in Sardinia, Italy mixed with velvety turquoise throw pillows from Pier 1 Imports

A turquoise and white glass vase rests on the mirrored bottom of a croc leather trimmed coffee table, while a framed vintage Hermes Grands Fonds scarf hangs on the wall

Lovely views from the roof deck of the Boston City Skyline
If anyone wants real proof of where a love or even a hobby of interior design can lead you, I have just been offered and accepted a job to be the new product manager for Liberty of London Furnishing Fabrics in London, and professionally, I come from a footwear background! This is just further testament to the fact that your passions can lead to your destiny. Unfortunately, this means that, as of June, I have to rent out my beautiful condo, but the new tenants have asked me to rent the apartment furnished, and quite honestly, I couldn’t think of a nicer compliment.

Guest Blogger: Olivia from Lacquered Life

Hello House of Turquoise readers, thanks for stopping by my Philadelphia apartment! I write a blog called Lacquered Life, where I share my musings on interior design, architecture and historic preservation. My studio is about 12 x14, save the window wells at the dormers. Although a tiny space, I like to think of it as my little treasure chest, where I can cram in all of the little things that I love.

Thanks so much for looking at these pictures of my teeny tiny turquoise apartment, and I hope that you all will stop by and see me at Lacquered Life!

Cameras and Chaos Laundry Room

I have one very talented reader I'd like to introduce you to today: Cindy of Cameras and Chaos. One quick look at her blog and you know she loves turquoise as much as I do. If that's not a good reason to love her (in my book it is), she is one fantastic photographer and a genius DIYer. Put those together and you have a really awesome blog. You may remember her cute bathroom I featured before? I think this may top it. Not only does it serve as her laundry room, but also a mud room and coat closet. What a joy to come home to, to do laundry in, to just grab your coat! Read all about everything you see (including the drool-worthy paint color!) over on her blog!
