Amazing Grace in Turks & Caicos

I know we barely just got back from our honeymoon, but there's something about taking a trip that just makes you want to go on another one! I certainly wouldn't mind spending my next vacation in Turks & Caicos at this luxury villa named Amazing Grace. The 9,000 square foot private escape is set on 600 secluded feet of white sand beachfront. 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms...I'm thinking a mini turquoise-lovers convention. If anyone could truly appreciate those beautiful shutters, it's us! Not to mention the tastefully decorated interiors, the crystal clear pool and the lovely terrace looking over the sparkling turquoise ocean. Read all about this fab villa here - including rates that I won't share here...day dreaming is too much fun!

Honeymoon Recap!

As promised, more honeymoon photos for you guys! It was truly an amazing two weeks. All along we knew we really wanted to spend two weeks by turquoise waters, so budget-wise Mexico was the best option for us. We did a lot of research and fell in love with two resorts. Being the indecisive people we are, we opted to spend one week at each! The first one, El Dorado Casitas Royale, was out-of-this-world. It was secluded and private, so green and lush, and most importantly...entirely romantic. We had a fabulous casita suite right by the beach with an incredible view. So many amenities, my favorite being the open-air, outdoor shower! We spent our days lounging on beach beds, being spoiled by the beach butlers, and playing in the ocean. The food here was fit for a king. It was all-inclusive, but all 7 restaurants were gourmet. It was seriously impressive (and seriously yummy!) We even had a private dinner on the beach our last night there! We did head out one day to go snorkeling off Maroma Beach, my first time snorkeling, which was super fun. (Although I couldn't get the Little Mermaid soundtrack out of my head the entire time!) And another day we toured the Mayan ruins at Tulum. Very fascinating stuff, but honestly the beach there (2nd & last pic above) was one of the most breathtaking things I've ever seen...I wish you guys could have seen it!!

The second week we spent at Sun Palace. We chose this place primarily because of the beach. Another all-inclusive, adults only resort, but not quite as luxurious or private as the first. We loved the more modern, sleek vibe though, and the beach here was fantastic...soft white sand, crisp clear turquoise water. The view from our room made it seem like we were on a cruise ship. It was a dream! This place was cool too because they give you a big chunk of change for "resort credit" that you can use for all sorts of things. We took a trip to Chichen Itza with part of it, then had upgraded wine with the rest. (Not sure I'd be willing to spend $175 for a bottle of champagne otherwise!) The highlight of this week, maybe the whole two weeks, was the day we spent on Isla Mujeres. We took the ferry over and just walked around, poked in the shops and took photos. After almost passing out from being so stink'n hot, we rented a moped and just drove around the colorful little island. I took about a million photos, the buildings above were from here (and that one from the other day I already showed you). It was just so, so cool. We actually took over 1300 photos the entire trip, so I made a collage below with some non-turquoise highlights. I hope you enjoy! :)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!

Back from Mexico!

I'm baaaack!! Holy cow, what a honeymoon. I'll have you know there came a point, very early on actually, where Chris and I looked at each other and had absolutely no clue as to what day it was. Now that's a vacation! No laptop or iphone, just simply a camera to capture as many memories as possible. I will definitely be sharing some more with you (loads of turquoise in Mexico, it was amazing!), but this awesome house that we spotted while touring Isla Mujueres on a moped was one of my favorites. Imagine having THAT as your home, and the Caribbean in your back yard! *sigh*

As much as I loved two whole weeks of heart-stopping turquoise water, white sandy beaches, fabulous gourmet meals, yummy pina coladas and (most of all) the company of my new husband 24/7, it is indeed good to be home. :)

Guest Blogger: Chris "A Dream House For My Wife"

Greetings fellow turquoise lovers! This is Erin’s husband, Chris. I can’t help but smile every time I get to say that now! Imagine my surprise when Erin asked ME to be a guest blogger on House of Turquoise. Being my first time ever blogging I decided I would attempt to piece together Erin’s dream house using the awesome images she has shared throughout the years here on House of Turquoise. I will start with the exterior of the house. The above image many of you will recognize as Martha Stewart's home (it’s sad that I know this, but I’ve come to terms with that), and the element we will take from this is that turquoise trim and that weathered shingle exterior you can find most perfectly in the Hamptons. Erin would flip out to have a house like this! The next key to Erin’s dream home, a comfy outdoor space with a view of ever expanding turquoise waters like the one pictured below (more here.) I can just picture Erin sitting out on that dock in the chaise lounge with a pina colada in her hand!

Now lets move on to the interior; starting with Erin’s dream kitchen. If you’ve been following House of Turquoise closely, you should already know this one… An exact replica of the kitchen below (more here.)

On to her dream bathroom… We will take elements from three different images to piece together her bathroom. Starting with the shower below (that must be curtained by the flamenco shower curtain from anthropologie, Erin has wanted that since I met her). The keys to the shower; BIG, lots of showerheads, and dreamy turquoise glass tile. …And the icing on the cake for this bathroom? Her own cozy vanity space to sit down and do her hair and makeup!

Finally what dream house would be complete without a bedroom. And the keys to the bedroom, as pictured below; a turquoise tufted headboard and closet big enough to park a semi in! I’m pretty sure a closet of this magnitude and grandure would sell Erin on the house alone!

...and with that, I’d like to thank you all for reading! Also, thank you Erin for asking me to do this and for bringing turquoise to my life; hopefully one day I can give you your perfect home as a sign of my gratitude for everything you’ve done for me! Have a great day everyone!

Stacey Haines

Remember that adorable coastal cottage from last week belonging to the talented photographer Stacey Haines? Well I've got more images to share from her! This story from Canadian Home & Country actually won Stacey a National Magazine Gold Award in Canada. She not only shot the story, but pitched the idea and produced the shoot. The cute cabin in Nova Scotia actually belongs to her parents and their family did the makeover together, so winning this award was super special to her! Read more about this cozy getaway here and view more amazing photography from Stacey here!

Kathryn Chaplow

A ton of new snow was just dumped on Minnesota, but that doesn't stop me from dreaming about summer! I'd love to have a lake home just like this Lake Michigan cottage designed by Kathryn Chaplow. Actually I'd love to just have a home like this one, it really doesn't even need to be by a lake! That serene bedroom is a slice of heaven! Love the aqua, the ceilings, the little nook...all so pretty. What about the porch...how fun is that red animal print?! And did you notice the blue and green fabric on the pillow on the sofa in the living room? It looks a lot like the fabric from yesterday's nursery! We gotta figure out what that is, I love it! See more of Kathryn's work right on over here!
